No. There is nothing to sign up for. Your notes sync through your own iCloud account if you are signed in on the iPad.

You get three days to try everything. After that, your notes stay readable and you can still export them, but editing is turned off until you unlock the app with a one-time purchase. There is no subscription.

Open Settings (the gear icon), then Full version. Tap Unlock, or Restore purchases if you have already bought it on this Apple ID.

Check that you are signed in to iCloud and that iCloud Drive is on in the iPad's Settings. In Marginalia, open Settings and look at the iCloud section for the sync status. Syncing needs a network connection and can take a minute.

Make sure the Pencil is paired and charged. In Marginalia, Settings has an Apple Pencil only switch: when it is on, your finger scrolls and only the Pencil writes. Turn it off to write with a finger.

Marginalia needs access to Calendars and Reminders. Open Settings, then Calendar and Reminders, and tap Allow access, or turn them on in the iPad's Settings app. You can also choose which calendars show under Choose which calendars show.

Transcription runs on your iPad and needs Speech Recognition access. Summaries and action items need an iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with it turned on, running iPadOS 26 or later.

Open a note and use the menu at the top right. You can move it to another folder, export it as a PDF, or lock it with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. On the Notes screen you can also touch and hold a note, or drag it onto a folder.

Yes. Export any note as a PDF from its menu, including after the trial has ended.
