Marginalia Notes & Planner · Last updated: October 19, 2026

Marginalia Notes & Planner ("the app") is a handwriting notebook and planner for iPad. This page explains what the app does with your information.

The short version

We do not collect, store, or share your personal information on any server we run. The app has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics.

Where your information lives

Your notes, handwriting, recordings, transcripts, summaries, and settings are stored on your iPad. If you are signed in to iCloud, they are also stored in your own private iCloud account so they stay in sync between your devices. That data belongs to you, and we cannot see it.

What the app asks to use

You can turn any of these off at any time in the iPad's Settings app.

Transcripts and summaries

Transcription and summaries use Apple's on-device features, including Apple Intelligence on supported iPads. Your audio and text are not sent to us or to any other company by the app.

Purchases

Purchases, including any free trial, are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details.

Sharing and exporting

When you export a note or share a recording, it goes only where you choose to send it, using the iPad's share sheet.

Children

The app does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes its data from that device. Data kept in iCloud can be managed in the iPad's Settings, under your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage.
